Energy Systems Design, Inc. (ESD) is a group of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical engineers, designers and drafters who are highly team-oriented, compatible and synergistic. We are committed to creative and technically innovative solutions, and sustainable engineering design for every project. Established in 1988, we currently have a staff of 35 at our single, corporate office location.

Our office is located in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona at the Scottsdale Waterfront, a mixed-use development that is within walking distance to many restaurants, shopping and entertainment venues.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER

This position provides electrical engineering of power and lighting systems for institutional, retail, and commercial building projects. The engineer prepares claculations and well coordinated, technically sound construction documents that are cost effective, clear, efficient and constructable; communicates and coordinates with architects, owners, other engineering disciplines, vendors, building officials throughout the design phrases of a project; monitors project budgets and has overall responsibility for the profitability of his/her project; handles contract administration; prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, spedifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs for project; visits construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents; reviews shop drawings, responds RFI's and coordinates with contractors, design team, building officials, owner, through the construction phase of project.

REQUIREMENTS include the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 5-10 years of electrical engineering experience
  • Proficient in use of AuctoCAD and REVIT MEP
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Strong electrical design capability in commercial, education, and institutional markets
  • Ability to meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaing quality of work
  • Self-manager to accomplish multiple project responsibilities
  • Continuous practice of personal accountability
  •  Knowledge of current Electrical codes and design standards

PLUMBING SYSTEMS DESIGNER/ENGINEER 

This position provides plumbing design leadership on a variety of project types by producing complete plumbing design documents. The candidate will collaborate with Clients and team members; design, coordinate and specify piping systems, plumbing fixtures and plumbing equipment; perform calculations; and interpret applicable codes and standards. Responsibilities will include review of contractor submittals for conformance to specified equipment and visits to projects under construction to observe and report on status and quality of installed work.   

REQUIREMENTS include the following:

  • 5+ years of plumbing design experience
  • ASPE/CPD Certification is a plus (American Society of Plumbing Engineers)
  • Proficient in use of AutoCAD and REVIT MEP
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Strong plumbing design capability in commercial, educational and institutional markets
  • Ability to meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality of work
  • Self-manager to accomplish multiple project responsibilities
  • Continuous practice of personal accountability
  • Knowledge of current Plumbing codes and design standards

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of an Associates Degree (A.A.) plus 3 years experience or 5+ years equivalent experience working on the design of building systems. Salary based on experience.

MECHANICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER

This Mechanical Project Engineer position manages, designs and drafts detailed construction drawings, sketches and revisions per architectural backgrounds for mechanical engineering systems. Types of mechanical engineering design includes: Central plants; Chiller Replacements/Cooling Tower Replacements; Mechanical air-conditioning and distribution systems; Exhaust/ventilation; Life Safety Systems; Critical environmental control; Energy/building management; Plumbing. Project responsibilities include:

  • Provide construction documents for Design-Bid and Design-Build approaches
  • Complete due diligence evaluations of existing building systems
  • Provide energy studies and life cycle evaluations
  • Design for LEED certification
  • Construction cost estimating
  • Provide energy audits
  • Assist with proposals (e.g. system descriptions, diagrams and calculations)
  • Identify value engineering concepts and options for savings
  • Interpret codes
  • Coordinate in-house mechanical and electrical engineering services
  • Coordinate with utility companies
  • Coordinate with agencies having jurisdiction
  • Conduct construction observation and administration
  • Commission the systems (required for LEED certification)
  • Mechanical air-conditioning and distribution systems
  • Exhaust / ventilation
  • Life Safety Systems
  • Critical environmental control
  • LEED Certification Procedures/Design
  • Energy / building management

REQUIREMENTS include the following:

  • Must have 5+ years of mechanical design experience in consulting engineering
  • Proficient in use of AutoCAD and REVIT MEP

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
