ESD is happy to annouce that the City of Mesa's Hohokam Stadium and Lew Wolff Training Complex, home of the Oakland A's Spring Training program, has won the 2015 Engineering News Record - Southwest Best Sports/Entertainment Project - Award of Merit. The annual ENRSW Best Projects competition is open to projects in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. The winning projects will be featured in the November issue of ENR Southwest, and the winners will be honored at an event in Phoenix on Nov. 3.
As a consultant to Gensler, ESD provided mechanical, plumbing, and electrical engineering for this major renovation project to update and rebrand the facilities. The overhauls of the stadium and training facility were the first since they were each built in 1997 and were completed to host the Oakland A's once again after being home to the Chicago Cubs Spring Training program for 34 years.
The Hohokam Stadium project scope included 10,500 SF of renovated clubhouse, ticketing, support, lockers, training rooms, restrooms, laundry, office, retail, vendors' commissary, a 1,287 SF new weight room, upgraded scoreboard, hydrotherapy tanks, site lighting and main field lighting.
The Lew Wolff Training Complex, also known as Fitch Park, scope of work included approximately 26,800 SF of new construction for a new commercial kitchen, golf cart storage, players' dining and training rooms, server room, video room, hydrotherapy, physical therapy, locker rooms, coaches' offices and lounge, and conference rooms. It also included a 24,000 SF renovation for new locker rooms, showers, restrooms, classrooms, offices, training and weight rooms, and offices.
Congratulations to our team for being recognized with such a great award!
